Portland-based Tanner Goods just launched their new Salt & Pepper range. It eases us seamlessly in to the vacation season with a collection of bags that will only enhance their vintage and heritage appeal with time and wear.

A bag for the summer is a bag for the beach, right? The “problem” is that’s just like asking for trouble; those lazy summer days are far from carefree if we spend every waking moment stressing about the effects the elements will have on our investment. With these bags, Tanner Goods solve that problem.

Remixed, Remastered, Re-engineered

Tanner Goods have rediscovered and revived an almost forgotten Swiss technique from the WW2 era of weaving near bomb-proof flax and nettle fibres – remember, cotton was scarce at the time – and then coating them with Durable Water Repellant, (aka DWR), to protect against the elements.

The result is crafted into a slubby, natural collection that is designed to be broken in from day one and, like the vast majority of Tanner Goods’ prodigious output, will look better with age and the odd battle scar or three.

Add to that, we are mightily impressed by the leather and hardware. Cambara English bridle leather is secured with solid brass rivets and button studs.

Probably the most durable item in the collection is the Everyday Tote which, as the name suggests, will serve as an invaluable sidekick whether it’s for a day at the beach or being still stuck in the office. It features adjustable straps, large internal and external pockets plus a full-length zippered closure.
