Raw Denim Roundup: 6 Raw Denim Jeans for Women

Raw denim was surely become popular in mainstream culture. But raw denim jeans for women is still somewhat uncommon in comparison to raw denim jeans for men. It may be because of the break in process, or the common lack of stretch, but the market for raw denim jeans for women is still somewhat small, yet growing.

Companies like Tellason, imogene + willie, and Baldwin are churning out some great women’s denim that will age very well. Take these along with brands Samurai and Railcar Fine Goods and our other halves have an all star set of choices to choose from to make their own imprint in the denim culture.

This is Denimhunters’ 2013-list to women’s raw denim.

I literally cannot name one woman I know that would spend more than $50 on jeans. Curious how well these sell.

Really? Where can you get a decent pair of jeans for that price? It is not cost-effective to have to buy four pairs of cheap jeans instead of one pair of well-sewn premium denim. I used to buy crap jeans but they always got saggy in the ass and stretched out after one hour of wear. And I was always tearing through the knees.

That is because most people are suckers and don’t think, nor realise the environmental or moral consequences of what they buy. I make 600€ maximum a month (living in a part of Spain that has 40% unemployment). Even so, it is not worth it for me to buy 20€ jeans that last one year or less. In 2001 when I bought my first pair of expensive jeans (had a different life then), they lasted me 10 years. Now I am looking at buying a pair of jeans that may take me a while to save up for but won’t look like crap within a short time.

Thank you for this post….after much researching on the internet, this post led me to Railcar and to the eventual purchase of two pairs of raw denim NOT high-waisted and with a slim leg – exactly what I was wanting. First timer, wish me luck!

Still looking for raw denim fit that is high rise with a boot cut. If I could find one, I’d probably buy 10 of them.

This is so fantastic. I am so fed up with stretchy jeans. It’s hard to find quality denim jeans for the ladies that are still flattering. Hopefully they continue to expand and make more classic products for the ladies!

“imogene + willie has six women’s fits and all but one of these fits is available in a rigid, raw denim.” Sadly, they seem to have given up on this. As of now it seems they do not make a single non-stretch jean for women (their last one was the Clarke, a cropped style, which they got rid of on clearance). I’ve asked them when they’ll bring back women’s rigid, and I get no response. What is the point of spending 200+ on jeans if they’re just lightweight stretchy crap denim like everyone else uses? AND they’re not selvage, either.

All of them are slim fit… I am looking for a raw denim boyfriend loose or straight leg which fits more like a men’s jeans. A pair of denims which is loose enough to put your hands in the pockets and just feel comfortable instead of squeezed in like a sausage. Anybody has any suggestion?

Check out American eagle… (Ae.com I think.) They have a couple 100% cotton that aren’t very slim fit.
I like the slim fits and was disappointed I couldn’t find any there lol.

You can always check out ebay for denim too, just be careful of fakes. If the price looks too good to be true, either know the brand really well or don’t risk it. eBay has a ton of 100% cotton denim.

Personally, I’d contend that the lack of raw/selvedge denim for women is more about sexism than anything else. Jeans for a long time were considered “men’s only” clothes and “unladylike,” so classic retro-styled jeans are sold almost exclusively to men because of that. As a guy, it saddens my heart very much to see such blatant misogyny and discrimination against women like this.
